How to Teach with Stories Across the Curriculum
Our brains are wired to learn and retain information through stories, so teaching through stories is not only the oldest, but the most effective and lasting method for educating students. In this session, internationally acclaimed author, storyteller and teacher Jim Weiss shares clear, easy methods educators and parents can use to inspire a love for learning in any subject in the classical curriculum. In his following sessions, Jim will demonstrate real-world applications by offering stories, and analysis of those stories, in diverse topics: seventeen centuries of science and scientific geniuses in one session, and masters and masterpieces of Renaissance art in the other session.

How Science Progresses: Stories of Genius and Discovery

 Award-winning author and storyteller Jim Weiss demonstrates how to excite students’ passion for science through true stories of six great scientists and the discoveries they made, and by analyzing the stories to show how teachers can use this same proven method to teach science and mathematics and set them in the context of their eras and nations. The historical figures will include Claudius Ptolemy, Nicolas Copernicus, Tycho Brahe, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton.

Masters of the Renaissance: Teaching the Arts through Story
In this entertaining, educational session, author and educator Jim Weiss will show you how to inspire students’ lifelong love of the arts by introducing artists and their masterpieces through true stories. Based upon his award-winning recording, Masters of the Renaissance, Jim will lead us through tales of Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, Ghiberti, Brunelleschi and the Medici family who sponsored the birth of their work. Analyzing the stories and the methods he has used to shape them, Jim shows how you can do the same to introduce the lives and works of composers, architects, painters, sculptors and other historical figures in thrilling, memorable fashion that will open students’ eyes to their own potential.
