Paula Byrne

PAULA BYRNE is the author of eight bestselling biographies, including “The Real Jane Austen: A Life in Small Things“ (2013), which, according to the Times Literary Supplement, “explodes the old view of her subject” through “wide, deep and meticulous research” producing a “magnificent” portrait of the beloved author.

Her debut study of Jane Austen and the theatre, shortlisted for the Theatre Book Prize, was lauded by The Spectator’s reviewer as “the best book on Jane Austen I have ever read”. It was updated and reissued as The Genius of Jane Austen: her Love of Theatre and Why She Works in Hollywood (2017). Paula is the author of two novels, and the New York Times bestseller, Belle.

SESSIONS:

“I declare after all there is no enjoyment like reading! How much sooner one tires of any thing than of a book! When I have a house of my own, I shall be miserable if I have not an excellent library.” (Pride and Prejudice)
This talk illustrates how Jane Austen encourages us to be better readers, not only of the printed book, but of people.
